An Anti-Replicator gun (or ARG, for short) is a weapon designed to destroy the Pegasus galaxy Replicators, also known as the Asurans, by disrupting the subspace link between their individual cells. These weapons were designed by Samantha Carter, and function in a manner very similar to the the disruptor technology designed by Jack O'Neill using an Ancient repository of knowledge and put into mass production by the Asgard. Every Replicator, no matter what form it assumes, is at its most basic level a computer, and composed of countless smaller pieces. The original Replicators were made out of large "blocks", while the Milky Way Human-form Replicators were made from much smaller cellular-sized components. Both versions used Keron-based technology as its primary power source, and each block featured its own micro-processor and memory core. When enough blocks accumulate in an immediate area, they come together to form larger, more complex components. (SG1: "Small Victories", "Unnatural Selection")
The Asurans, however, are composed of partially organic nanites; and so the original disruptor technology might not have been effective. The ARGs were developed after the Atlantis Expedition encountered the Asurans, and how they differ internally from the original disruptor is unknown. The ARGs are, at least, much smaller, resembling a more traditional gun. Each ARG includes a control crystal that can be directly interfaced with Ancient systems, and can be used to apply the same disruptive properties to Ancient shield technology. Like the original disruptors, however, the Asurans were eventually able to adapt to the weapon, rendering it ineffective. (ATL: "The Return, Part 2", "Lifeline")
A much larger version of the ARG is also in development, and would be capable of destroying Replicators on a planetary scale, vastly reducing the chances of a Replicator being able to adapt to the weapon. (ATL: "First Strike")
ARG's were also seen in use against the Milky Way Replicators when James Marrick, operating on orders from the IOA, used the Asgard Computer Core aboard the Odyssey to recreate the Replicators for use against the Ori fleet. However, when Cameron Mitchell shot it with an ARG, it had no effect as the Replicator had an immunity to ARG's programmed in during creation. (SG1: "The Ark of Truth")
