Plot
Teal'c learns about human culture by full immersion, renting an apartment outside of the SGC and interacting with normal members of human society, but his desire to see justice often leads to situations that attract unpleasant amounts of attention; Teal'c inserting himself into situations most normal people would ignore out of feelings of self-preservation. Eventually, this leads to charges of kidnapping and murder. It turns out at the end of the episode, that the NID is involved with accusing Teal'c. Teal'c's new "girlfriend" kills her previous, abusive boyfriend out of self-defense. Then Teal'c and she run away together (Teal'c of course knows nothing about the boyfriend's death). Later, Teal'c is captured by the cops who accuse him of killing the man and kidnapping his girlfriend.
The NID then proceeds to blackmail Daniel Jackson into translating some ancient text in order to save Teal'c and the girl whom they took, just before Teal'c was arrested. In the end, Jackson agrees and the NID disappear just as Carter comes with a SWAT team to rescue Daniel.
At the same time, Carter is proposed to by Pete Shanahan (a police detective she started dating in the previous season) and is forced to rethink her life. At the end of the episode, she accepts, in a comical sort of way.
Quotes
- Pete Shanahan: So, how are things in the galaxy?
- Samantha Carter: You know I can't talk about work.
- Pete Shanahan: Sorry. I'm still getting used to the fact that my girlfriend's a superhero.
- Jack O'Neill: I never thought I'd hear myself utter these words...
- I need that report.
Notes
- Peter Bryant (Trust agent Hoskins) previously played Fro'tak in season two's "Family".
- Peter DeLuise had a cameo as the man holding the boy near the hotdog stand.
- According to Joseph Mallozzi, this episode aired out of order; it should have aired after Covenant. It is in Covenant that the audience learns about The Trust and who they are, as Daniel already seems to know about them here.
- Daniel says that he likes watching the History Channel.
- On the initial airing, the end credits were cut off and the show led off directly into the next episode of Stargate Atlantis.
- The two Trust members are not specifically identified on screen (although their names are mentioned), but according to the credits, the bald guy is Hoskins, and the one who meets Daniel in the park is Jennings.
- Erica Durance plays Lois Lane in the TV series Smallville.
- The Ancient text appearing on Daniel Jackson's screen just prior to being contacted by the NID says "Actual words are hard to deciph so thisll work".
- The building used by the Trust in this episode "Westminster Boiler & Tank" is also used by the Trust in the Season Ten episode "Memento Mori". Westminster is also the location in British Columbia where this episode was partially filmed.
- While debating Pete's marriage proposal, Sam worries that it is irresponsible to have children due to her off-world activities on SG-1. This is exactly opposite Colonel Dave Dixon's (played by Adam Baldwin) attitude in the episode, Heroes (Part II).
