Alec Colson was a rich and successful businessman, creator of Colson Industries, who came aware of the existence of alien life and that this knowledge should be shared with the public at any cost. He was also interested in Daniel Jackson's claims that the pyramids were landing pads for aliens.

In the McCarthy era, Alec's father was a news reporter who strongly believed that people should always know what the government is doing. This got him jailed. But his values went onto his son.

Alec loved to fly planes but lost his wife and kids in a plane accident. He then founded Colson Industries to help make planes safer. Unknown to him, his company was being used to assist in the development of alien technologies acquired by SG teams, including the engine for the F-302 and analyzing Asgard DNA to assist with cloning problems. However, they pursued further on the latter than their contract specified, developing a blank and mindless Asgard clone as a result.

Five months after Anubis' attack on Earth, Colson, who had access to multiple satellite feeds, realizes that there is intelligent life elsewhere and the government was trying to cover it up as a meteor shower. He made an ultimatum to the government to either confess or he'll present proof. He knew that Washington wouldn't dare try to kill him otherwise it would legitimize his claims. However, his friend, Brian Vogler pleaded him to stop otherwise it will drop their company stock.

Colson presented a blank Asgard clone, whom his employees spent much time teaching to walk, to the media. However, the SGC quietly beams up all the evidence and publicly discredit him though use of holographic technology. But at the same time, someone tried to kill Colson, making him suspect the US government. But just as he was about to go live with remains of a Ha'tak debris, he is beamed to Prometheus and then to the SGC, where he meets Thor. He is taken to P4X-650, one of Earth's offworld bases, where they flew an F-302. Colson is later informed about the Trust, a group who is exploiting alien technology for their own gain and the ones who tried to kill him. Colson discuss the possibility of revealing the Stargate's existence, which he believes will unite humanity, not fracture it as the SGC fears. Upon learning that the Trust was on to him for six months, having gotten to him through Brian, who had to sign false forms to keep the company from falling into bankruptcy. Vowing to take down the Trust, they planned to haven Brian meet with his contact, only to find that he hanged himself in his home beforehand. Running to fight another day, Colson stays at the offworld base. (SG1: "Covenant").
