Amelia Banks was a member of the Atlantis Expedition since around 2008. She, along with Chuck is one of the city's technicians. Before joining the expedition, she studied kickboxing for five years and is considerably skilled at it. (ATL: "The Prodigal")
[edit] Biography
In 2008, she was in the Control room when a Quarantine lockdown was imposed by an ionospheric storm the previous night. Before the city's self-destruct was activated by a supposed breach, she was able to restore the air conditioning to most of the central tower. Afterwards, she absailed down six floors with Lt. Col. Sheppard, Maj. Lorne and Chuck to reach the power room to disable the self-destruct. They were able to find Colonel Carter and Dr. Zelenka. Because she restored the air system, Zelenka was able to use the air vents and made it to the power room to shut down the city before redoing it, deactivating the self-destruct. (ATL: "Quarantine")
When a Vanir starship arrived on Atlantis, she informed Colonel Sheppard of the situation. She raised the shield, but they had no effect. After the city's Stargate and much of Stargate Operations was later destroyed by the activation of the Attero device, she helped set up an Auxiliary control center. After Sheppard agreed to pay anyone five dollars to anyone who could find a way to contact the Daedalus, the ship, which was at the time hijacked by "Todd" manage to have made contact with the city. Though this did not count as finding a way to make contact with the Daedalus, Sheppard agreed to pay her later. (ATL: "First Contact", "The Lost Tribe")
After Michael took over Atlantis to take Teyla's child, Torren and sent the stunned crew in the control room, she was among the second to come round after Ronon. After she managed to open the door, due to her kickboxing skills, she was able to hold off one of Michael's hybrids before Ronon managed to shoot him. It was this interaction with Ronon that sparked their interest in each other, which became apparent to the team after Atlantis returned to Earth, where she visited Ronon in the infirmary for the recovery from his death and resurrection by the Wraith while attempting to stop the ZPM powered Hive Ship. (ATL: "The Prodigal", "Enemy at the Gate")
