Anhur was a Goa'uld Warmaster who was in service of the Supreme System Lord Ra. He was considered to have been one of the chief generals in the Sun God's armies and led them on assaults on numerous worlds. He was considered a master strategist and his tactical skill was second to none. This alone resulted in him being richly rewarded by his master who used Anhur to settle scores with rival Goa'uld. In addition to this, he was also allowed to draw upon any of Ra's resources to achieve his goal. He was known for his private activities that were encouraged by Ra in order to ensure that Anhur's instincts remained sharp and kept him busy in order to make sure that his prized warmaster would not think of turning against his master. (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")
Anhur was engaged in a personal vendetta when his master arrived on Abydos. Instead of joining his master, he was waging a war against the Goa'uld Amurru on the planet Tuat. He was close to achieving victory over his opponent when he received a message from his master that stated that an uprising was taking place on Abydos and Anhur was to return at once to deal with it and the interfering Tau'ri who had arrived on the planet. Anhur did not believe the message to be genuine—as he would later claim—and refused to return in order to end his long feud with Amurru. The next news he heard was that Ra had been slain by the hands of the Tau'ri which he heard from some of the escaping personal guards of Ra that managed to get away. (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")
At first, Anhur did not believe this to be true but the Jaffa informed him of the truth of the tale. Believing that his own inaction had caused the death of his master, Anhur would abandon his chance on defeating Amurru and would travel from planet to planet but never visiting Abydos despite his Jaffa attempting to convince him to do so. This was primarily because Anhur believed that, as Ra's betrayer by not heeding his masters call, he was unable to visit the site of his failure. He would travel to Chulak and esconced himself among the Goa'uld who ruled that world. (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")
On Chulak, Anhur remained as a counterbalance to the schemes of Apophis and his allies. During his time in this low key role, he realized that Apophis's power was waxing by the time of Ra's demise which Anhur believed himself to be responsible for. This would result in the other System Lords attempting to convince Anhur, by taunt or other means, to actively oppose Apophis. However, Anhur's power was not as great as his opponent and he was thus unsure of his chances of success in such an endeavour. Nevertheless, Anhur sought a means to repent for his past failure. Whether he lived or died was unimportant to him; all that mattered to him was that he make a defiant stand against the Serpent God as his master would have wished. This made him somewhat unique among the Goa'uld as most would easily abandon ties to their master and scheme to become masters themselves. (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")
