Asgard transporters (also called beaming technology) is a transportation system, similar to Ancient beam transporters, used and manufactured by the Asgard and Tau'ri.
[edit] Overview
A being targeted by a transporter is taken into a bright light and broken into atoms which are then transported to a designated location and reassembled. All Asgard ships are equipped with beaming technology, and the Asgard often use it as a means of getting from one place to another. They also use it to pick humans up to their ships, though they often give the humans little to no warning.
The Asgard beaming device is a teleportation system used to virtaully instantly transport a person or object(s) from one place to another over large distances. Unlike the Ancient Ring Transporter, the object in transport does not need to be on a platform, and can be beamed to anywhere, not just another platform. This technology is a great tactical advantage, and it also provides great usefulness in society.
The beaming technology is mostly contained on Asgard ships; however, Anubis was able to steal the technology from the Asgard by probing Thor's mind. As a result, he was able to use the technology on a mass scale and was later used by Osiris and Baal.
Besides people and small objects, the beam device is apparently capable of beaming large objects, from Stargates to complete skyscrapers.
The beaming technology could also be modified to create matter from energy and allowed the creation of 'replicated' food, supplies and other equipment.
Replicators are attracted to the energy given off by transporters, and the Human form Replicator are capable of making themselves resistant. When the Asgard origionally gave the Tau'ri access to their beam technology, they placed failsafes into the code to prevent the humans from using them as a weapon. However, the Daedalus has occasionally used their transporters to transport nuclear warheads into Wraith hive ships (with help from an Asgard) to great effect. The Wraith, however, were able to develop jamming codes against this making the transporters useless again.
