The brigs in Atlantis, and presumably other city-ships as well, are used to lock dangerous people away. The brigs have a cage in the middle, which is not only protected by horizontal bars but also by a powerful force field which is inpenetratable. These fields are constantly active and only deactivate when the chamber is unlocked. The Atlantis Expedition has used the brigs several times to imprison captured enemies, such as Wraith and Genii.
