Atlantis transporter
From SGCommand
- "This is definitely not a closet."
- —John Sheppard
Atlantis transporters are transporters designed to quickly transfer people throughout Atlantis.
[edit] Design and functions
- "Apparently it's also an elevator."
- —John Sheppard
The Atlantis transporters are shaped like a small elevator or closet. When a person enters the cabin, a control panel on the back wall opens and displays a map of Atlantis with dots representing other transporters. If one such dot is pressed, the doors close and all matter inside the cabin is transported to the chosen target, and most probably in reverse too. The cabins also work as elevators to transport people up and down in the same structure. (ATL: "Hide and Seek")
Due to their function and the visual effect of the transporter, these devices may be a modification of the Ring transporter which was also developed by the Ancients. Presumably other Ancient city-ships are also equipped with these as the basic layout of them all is literally identical.
It would appear that the transporters are a modification or variant of the Ring transporters, as the sound and light movement are identical. (ATL: "Remnants")
[edit] History
- "Someone thought it would make a nice closet."
- —Dr. Rodney McKay
When the Atlantis Expedition arrived at the city, they at first didn't know for what the cabins were used for, so someone stored a large amount of equipment in one of them due to their appearance of a closet. When the Athosian Jinto played with a friend he accidentally used one such transporter and during their search for him, the expedition got to know how they work. Since then the chambers are used for day-to-day transportation. (ATL: "Hide and Seek")
