Auto-dialers are small devices capable of using a Stargate to establish a wormhole without the need for a dialing device.

[edit] Functions
Auto-dialer are small, stone-shaped devices that could establish a stable wormhole using a pre-determined address stored within the device to even distant galaxies without the need for a large power source connected to the gate indicating some form of advanced battery. The created wormhole lacks the unstable vortex that engaging a wormhole usually creates, indicating a different process than what is used by a Stargate. (SG1: "Small Victories")
It is unlikely that these devices contain the correlative update and planetary shift compensation abilities of a regular DHD and so they would have to be manually updated every century or so in order to function properly. It is also unknown if these devices can dial any other addresses not already stored in memory.
[edit] History
First used by Thor to return to the Ida galaxy with Samantha Carter, an auto-dialer was later used by Cassandra 80 years in the future, the Tau'ri having deciphered at least that much of the Asgard core by this point. The device was later revealed to have the additional feature of being a time travel device, and allows a wormhole to be connected to any time and/or place the user choose. (SG1: "1969", "Unending", "Roswell")
Ba'al was shown to possess a device similar to an auto-dialer that attaches to the Stargate itself. Once attached the user simply input the desired address, like a miniature DHD. It is unknown if Ba'al's device can be used to dial another galaxy, but the device at least contains enough power to dial an intragalactic address with a gate that has no other power source. (SG1: "Continuum")
