Crystal skulls were devices, built by the Omeyocan, with a function of transportation and Dimension Shifting with the use of Leptons.
A Crystal skull, identical to the one Daniel's grandfather Nicholas Ballard discovered in 1971 in Belize, was discovered in a Mayan ziggurat by SG-1 in the year 2000 on the planet P7X-377. Daniel then briefed SG-1, General Hammond and Doctor Fraiser on the skull that his grandfather found, explaining that his grandfather believed the skull transported him to another planet where he met giant aliens. The Crystal skull works similar to Arthur's Mantle. The device would release lepton radiation to pull those within close proximity to the device into an alternate dimension, similar to the one occupied by the Giant Aliens and visible to those who wear the Sodan cloaking device. Whoever was pulled into this dimension was out-of-phase, and thus able to walk through objects that are in-phase. (SG1: "Arthur's Mantle")
