The F-15 Eagle was developed as an air superiority fighter and later models added the role of attack plane. Unlike the F-16 Fighting Falcon, the F-15 is not in widespread use by the Tau'ri outside of the United States Air Force.
[edit] Alternate realities
In an alternate reality, a flight of four F-15's are assigned to transport Col. Mitchell, Col. Carter, and Dr. Jackson to Antarctica. When the base is destroyed, they are rerouted to Murmansk, Russia and engage the invading Goa'uld. (Stargate: Continuum)
