The F-16 Fighting Falcon is an air superiority fighter and attack plane in widespread use by the Tau'ri, including the United States Air Force. Future SG-1 leader Cameron Mitchell flew an F-16 during his time as a combat pilot.

Although the F-16's manufacture predates the establishment of the Stargate program by decades and it presumably includes no technology derived from alien sources, the craft are occasionally employed against extraterrestrial forces. For example, two F-16s intercepted and shot down an Al'kesh piloted by Ba'al (or one of his clones) in 2006.

[edit] Trivia

Though officially called the Fighting Falcon, is sometimes referred to as a "Viper" in reference to the fighter craft in Battlestar Galactica.
