Baras was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, who was stationed as one of Icarus Base's military personnel.

He and roughly 80 people were forced to evacuate Icarus Base during an attack against the base by three Lucian Alliance Ha'tak vessels. He ended up on the Destiny, an Ancient spaceship located several billion light years from Earth. (SGU: "Air, Part 1")
He was assigned to guard Chloe Armstrong's room during the battle with the Control Ship. He wanted to call Colonel Everett Young about letting Chloe out of her room, however, she knocked him unconscious before he could do so. He was taken to the infirmary and Lt. Tamara Johansen determined Chloe had broke his arm in two places. (SGU: "Resurgence", "Deliverance")
2010[]
He entered a stasis pod for the trip to the next galaxy. (SGU: "Gauntlet")
Alternate timelines[]
- In an alternate timeline, he chose to return to Earth, but like everyone else except for Colonel David Telford, didn't make it and was presumed dead. However, he ended up on a planet that he and other survivors called Novus, 2,000 years in the past. (SGU: "Twin Destinies", "Common Descent")
