Firearms—or Guns as many are commonly referred to—are weapons used by the Tau'ri. They launch projectiles using explosive powder, the most primitive form a blend of charcoal, sulfur, and potassium nitrate. While considered primitive compared to Ancient, Asgard, Goa'uld, Ori, and Wraith energy weapons, they are capable of piercing the armor worn by Jaffa and killing Wraith and Goa'uld hosts. Firearms are also not susceptible to energy disruptions or loss power over time.

Interestingly, Guns are the only known weapon capable of permanently damaging insect-form Replicators, prior to the invention of the Replicator disruptor. While the blocks may come back together after one shot, several shots will destroy them.
