The Gadmeer, also spelled Gad-Meer, were an advanced alien race native to the Milky Way galaxy. They appeared to be a reptile-like species and were sulfur-based rather than carbon-based like humans.

[edit] History

The society of the Gadmeer was 10,000 years old and they were very peaceful. They were however defeated by a superior military power (possibly the Goa'uld) due to a lack of military technology and tactics, and thus their race apparently died out. To prevent their culture from vanishing they built a giant vessel which stored all their knowledge, including arts, mathematics and even thousands of DNA samples of the plants and animals of their homeworld.

This ship then searched for another world which would be similar to their original homeworld and over time it scanned thousands of worlds. Ultimately it found a world called P5S-381 by Stargate Command, on which it performed a terraforming-like process so that the Gadmeer civilization could be reborn. It however turned out that the SGC had recently settled the Enkarans on this planet, which was the only known world reachable by Stargate on which the Enkarans could survive. Eventually, the planet was given to the Gadmeer, while the terraformer transported the Enkarans to their original home world. (SG1: "Scorched Earth")

[edit] Trivia

  • The Gadmeer look oddly like the Pokemon Mewtwo or the Aliens from Independence Day, although it's doubtful whether this was intended as a deliberate reference.
  • Gadmeer is the first known sulfur-based race, followed by the Nocturnal creature.
