The beam of the Goa'uld scanning device quickly scanning Senior Airman Carol Weterings. From the Stargate SG-1 Season 1 premiere episode, "Children of the Gods".

These silver hand held spherical devices were typically employed during exploration of new worlds with a Stargate. It was thrown through the Stargate whereupon it landed in its new environment. Once there, part of the device opened on the top and emitted a yellow scanning beam.

Presumably, this information was transmitted to the Kara kesh of the Goa'uld lord or to equipment used by the Jaffa.

HistoryEdit

Apophis utilized such devices when searching other worlds with his Serpent Guard to find a suitable host for his queen Amaunet among the females of different planets. One such scanning grenade was deployed to Earth, where it landed in Stargate Command.

The device activated in the presence of Senior Airman Carol Weterings, where it proceeded to examine her and relay biological information about her suitability for blending through the Stargate to Apophis. This resulted in Weterings's favor and as such, Apophis and his scout team arrived and in response, slaughtered the gate room's ill-equipped and poorly prepared defenders before kidnapping Weterings and fleeing back through the Stargate which ultimately prompted the Stargate Program and Stargate Command to be brought online back once again so that they could stop the Goa'uld. (SG1: "Children of the Gods")
