"Greetings, I am Heimdall."
―Heimdall[src]

Heimdall was an Asgard geneticist. Heimdall, unlike some other Asgard such as Hermiod and Freyr, appears quite affable, showing a much more jovial, friendly, and enthusiastic attitude while dealing with Humans. Heimdall also displays considerable politeness towards the SG-1 team upon their meeting.

Biography[]

2002[]

After an ancient Asgard ship containing three cryogenically frozen Asgard was discovered after 30,000 years being adrift, the Asgard came to believe the last perfectly preserved Asgard ancestor might hold the key to the Asgard's failing cloning technology, and Heimdall chose to study her ancient ancestor. To prevent the Replicators from intervening, this study took place on Adara II, an uninhabited planet in the Milky Way galaxy, protected by the Protected Planets Treaty. Unfortunately, her research outpost was discovered by the Goa'uld Anubis, who sent a ship under the command of Osiris to the planet. Thor attacked the invading Ha'tak according to the Treaty, but his ship was destroyed as Anubis had upgraded his fleet with Ancient technology.

As the Asgard were occupied fighting the Replicators, Freyr asked Stargate Command for help. SG-1, without Dr. Daniel Jackson who ascended earlier, was sent to the planet where they met up with Heimdall. She told them about her studies and asked them to help rescue Thor, who was held prisoners by Anubis to gain access to Asgard technology. SG-1 was able to do so, although the laboratory was eventually invaded by Osiris. The team and Heimdall were able to flee on a Tel'tak together with Thor and Heimdall's research, and were finally rescued from the Goa'uld by three O'Neill-class ships. (SG1: "Revelations")

2006[]

When the Replicators were defeated, Heimdall worked hard in the Ida Galaxy to find the missing link to the flawed genome with Thor. (SG1: "Ripple Effect")

2007[]

But it seems Heimdall was unsuccessful in her research and most likely died together with the other members of her race when they committed mass suicide. (SG1: "Unending")

Behind the scenes[]

  • Teryl Rothery (Dr. Janet Fraiser) does the voice of Heimdall. Heimdall was 100% computer animated, as the Asgard puppet was needed to play Thor. According to the episode audio commentary, the crew's solution was to have Rothery appearing on set wearing a T-shirt with an Asgard image on it. Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, and Christopher Judge were thus forced to speak to a blinking light on Rothery's chest indicating the location of Heimdall's face.
