"Henry Hayes, President of the United States of America, one nation among many."
―Henry Hayes[src]

Henry Hayes was the President of the United States on Earth that was elected in 2004.

Biography[]

Background information[]

Hayes apparently knew Major General George S. Hammond in the 1960s, when they both were Lieutenants in the United States Air Force. Hayes is married and he and his wife were friends with Senator Alan Armstrong and Patricia Armstrong. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 1") (SGU: "Air, Part 3")

2004[]

On his first day in office, he was briefed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Francis Maynard. His Vice President, Robert Kinsey wanted him to remove General Hammond from command of Stargate Command and had Richard Woolsey brief him on several incidents where Earth came close to disaster. He was not convinced that Kinsey's position was the correct one and when Woolsey gave him evidence that Kinsey was tied to rogue NID elements, he was very displeased. (SG1: "Inauguration")

Despite his mistrust of Vice President Robert Kinsey, he replaced Hammond as commander of Stargate Command with Dr. Elizabeth Weir. He was instrumental in the defense against Anubis' attack on Earth by ordering the Prometheus into battle and also by trying to bluff Anubis when he appeared as a hologram in the Oval Office demanding Earth's surrender. He forced Kinsey to resign and evidently go rogue (he also implies that he would have done worse to him if he didn't resign, as he mentions that he has "enough evidence as to have Kinsey shot"). (SG1: "Lost City, Part 1", "Lost City, Part 2")

Hayes authorized Weir to pursue negotiations with the Goa'uld System Lords. (SG1: "New Order, Part 1")

After Colonel Jack O'Neill had the ancient Repository of knowledge removed from his by the Asgard and his subsequent return to Earth, Hayes asked Dr. Weir to extend an invitation for O'Neill to have dinner at the White House. (SG1: "New Order, Part 2")

He later appointed Weir leader of the Atlantis expedition and the Antarctic outpost and put O'Neill in charge of Stargate Command following his promotion to Brigadier General. (SG1: "New Order, Part 2") (SGA: "Rising")

During Anubis' infiltration of Stargate Command, Hayes called O'Neill personally and informed O'Neill that he had 24 hours to end the lockdown of Stargate Command and reestablish normal gate operations after there was no signs of Anubis inhabiting any SGC personnel. (SG1: "Lockdown")

A short time after General O'Neill took over at Stargate Command, Hayes traveled to the SGC to fully endorse him, but after sending Mark Gilmor to secretly assess his command ability. (SG1: "Zero Hour")

A few months later, he had a meeting with General O'Neill and Supreme Commander Thor at the White House. (SG1: "Covenant").

When The Trust stole the Stargate from the SGC, Daniel Jackson remarked that he hated to be the one who had to explain the situation to Hayes. (SG1: "Endgame")

2005[]

In 2005, he was informed by Major General Henry Landry of a potential cache of Ancient Technology located in England. (SG1: "Avalon, Part 1")

Several months later, Hayes authorized any and all means to complete the mission and end the Ori beachhead at Kallana. (SG1: "Beachhead")

During the Ori plague outbreak on Earth, Hayes was preparing a speech to address the world about the current crisis. He also ordered that all borders in the United States be closed until further notice. (SG1: "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1")

2006[]

During the IOA's first trip off-world, Hayes informed Landry that he wanted it to go off without a hitch. (SG1: "The Scourge")

Hayes was later informed by the Russian government that they were planning to terminate the treaty between the two nations to keep the Alpha Gate. Hayes later agreed to give Russia a BC-304, the Korolev. (SG1: "Crusade", "Camelot")

Later during the Wraith crisis, Hayes had no choice but to give in to the IOA's demands that Dr. Weir be recalled from Atlantis to justify her actions in her forming an Alliance with the Wraith and the Wraith getting intelligence through a virus about Earth. (SGA: "Allies", "No Man's Land")

Landry later informed NID Agent Malcolm Barrett that until Hayes told him to, he didn't have to follow the NID's orders. (SG1: "Insiders")

Landry later informed SG-1 that Hayes was not going to be able to hold the NID back forever regarding the NID getting ahold of the Ba'al clones. (SG1: "Insiders")

During the testing of the McKay/Carter Intergalactic Gate Bridge, Hayes informed Major General O'Neill that he wasn't a test pilot anymore as O'Neill was a little mad that he wasn't going to fly the maiden voyage. (SGA: "The Return, Part 1")

2007[]

In 2007, The IOA proposed to Hayes that Daniel Jackson's life be terminated due to him becoming a prior. (SG1: "The Shroud")

Sometime after SG-1 sent the Sangraal to the Alteran Home Galaxy, Hayes was being briefed by Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter on the scenario that played out in the alternate reality where the Stargate was made public. Major General Henry Landry believed that Hayes was having a hard time getting past the fact that he wasn't President. (SG1: "The Road Not Taken", "Bad Guys")

After the Asgard gave Earth all their knowledge, Landry informed Lt. Colonel Carter that he wanted to be able to brief the President as soon as the Odyssey got back. As he felt Hayes was going to want to know how quickly they could duplicate the new Asgard weaponry. (SG1: "Unending")

Behind the Scenes[]

  • In early drafts of the Stargate SG-1 Season 10 episode "The Road Not Taken", the script had Henry Hayes as President of the United States, but William Devane was unavailable. Because it was felt that the President needed to be a darker version of a character familiar to Colonel Carter, Henry Landry took that role with General Hammond commanding the SGC in the final script.
  • In reality, this office at the time was held by George W. Bush who was President of the United States from 2001 to 2009.
