The High King is the title taken by a Wraith Commander that posed as a god to the people of M32-3R1.

History[]

At some point centuries in the past, the Wraith Commander that would come to be known as the High King came to M32-3R1 posing as a god. Due to the low technology level of the planet's people compared to Wraith technology, the High King was able to pull the deception off. Having been protected by an Ancient energy shield, the people were unaware of his true nature and he set himself up on the Holy Island where every year, the people would bring him tribute in the form of people for the Games of Life. In these games, the tributes would make their way through a labyrinth full of traps and the winner would get to go home with a monetary prize while all of the losers would become the High King and his men's food. This was presumably done so that he wouldn't have to Cull as it would be easier to have the people willingly come to him while the Games provided him with entertainment. The High King also disabled the planet's DHD so that no one could dial out and somehow got a Wraith cruiser past the shield to land on the Holy Island.

In 2005, the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team and Doctor Radek Zelenka arrived on the planet after detecting the anomalous energy signature from the shield. Apparently detecting the team's Puddle Jumper, the High King dispatched his cruiser which shot the Puddle Jumper down but couldn't find Lt. Colonel John Sheppard and Teyla Emmagan who were onboard and survived the crash. Sheppard and Teyla would eventually realize the situation on the planet and get put into the Games of Life themselves as tributes. They encountered the High King on their way to the labyrinth, witnessing his speech about the Games but not kneeling or in Teyla's case, paying attention. The High King remained oblivious to Sheppard and Teyla's true nature during this encounter and sent them into the labyrinth believing they were simply regular tributes.

During the Games, the traps were disabled by Doctor Radek Zelenka with the help of Ronon Dex and the control systems destroyed. The High King sent his Wraith warriors to find the humans at first, but upon encountering resistance, instead pulled everyone back to cover the exit where the humans would be outnumbered. However, Teyla was able to hear the High King's orders to his warriors due to her abilities and the Wraith camera system had been destroyed by Zelenka as well. As a result, the humans in the maze retreated to the entrance rather than the exit and made contact with a second Puddle Jumper containing a rescue team led by Doctor Rodney McKay and Major Evan Lorne. With the rescue team's help, the labyrinth survivors escaped into the plaza where they were attacked by a few guards, but escaped into the Puddle Jumper.

With the situation getting out of his control, the High King powered up his cruiser and attacked the Puddle Jumper. Piloted by Sheppard, the damaged Puddle Jumper tried without success to outrun the High King's cruiser. Realizing the futility of the situation, Sheppard flew the Puddle Jumper directly at the cruiser at nine hundred miles per hour in a game of chicken, the Puddle Jumper's shield holding against the cruiser's weapons barrage but being quickly depleted. Just before impact, the High King instinctively jerked his cruiser higher while Sheppard took the Puddle Jumper towards the ocean. The High King's cruiser collided with the Ancient energy shield, destroying the cruiser and killing all aboard, including the High King.

Following the death of the High King and his Wraith, McKay, who had repaired the Stargate, offered to disable it again so that any Wraith that arrived could not leave again with the shield protecting the planet from space. However, Jitrine decided to leave the Stargate accessible so that her people could join the galaxy and everything in it. Jitrine also suggests that with the High King dead, King Anados of Pelagia will take over as the leader of a new empire of men on the planet that will shape their world as they choose rather than the Wraith. Physical Appearance[]

Due to his role as the High King of M32-3R1, the High King dressed differently than normal Wraith. The High King's long white hair almost glittered and his somber black leathers were relieved by a cloak of silvery blue that would snap and wave against a clearing sky. The High King wore a circlet across his forehead set with heavy blue stones and a fancy mesh of gold and jewels covered the back of his feeding hand. (SGA: "Death Game")
