"Your current dilemma: how to unlock the Stargate's ninth and final chevron ... specifically how much energy will be required."
Nicholas Rush[src]

The Icarus Project was a Tau'ri project to research and unlock the Stargate's ninth and final Chevron.

Overview[]

The Icarus Project, according to Californian Senator, Alan Armstrong, cost around $1.6 billion. The project was based in the Icarus Base on P4X-351.

History[]

The project ended in 2009 with the discovery of the Destiny and the destruction of P4X-351 following an attack by the Lucian Alliance. (SGU: "Air, Part 1")

The Lucian Alliance has duplicated this research for their own ends. Rush revealed that dialing Destiny will result in the planet blowing up in order to provide the power to dial to the 9 chevron address.(SGU: "Subversion", "Incursion, Part 1")

Behind the scenes[]

In Greek legend, Icarus, the son of Daedalus, the architect who designed a Labyrinth, was killed when, while attempting to escape from Crete using a pair of wings his father crafted. The wax which held the feathers together melted when he flew too close to the sun, and he plummeted to the sea. Icarus patches depict a feather over the sun, clearly referencing the legend.
