John Noble is an Australian-born film and television actor and a theater director of more than 80 plays.

He has three children: the actress Samantha Noble, Daniel Noble & Jess Noble.

Noble played governor Meurik in the Stargate SG-1 episode "Camelot".

He is internationally best known for his performance as Denethor in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King film adaption. On Fringe, he plays the character Dr. Walter Bishop, and Bishop's alternate universe counterpart, "Walternate".

Other works include Russian Consul Anatoly Markov in the sixth season of the television series 24.

In the ending credits of the Extended Edition of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" (2002), his name is misspelled "John Nogle."
