Latin was a language spoken on Earth by the Ancient Romans. It is also the ancestor of several languages on Earth, including Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese (and to some extent also English). Latin is descended from Ancient. It is more or less extinct on Earth, but is still spoken, particularly in Vatican City. (SG1: "The Fifth Race")
