M4C-862 is a moon in the Milky Way galaxy orbiting a gas giant approximately 42,000 light years away from Earth. It is home to small energy beings and hosts a Stargate. The moon is primarily covered in deciduous forests with several large spots of rock, perfect for colonization. The moon also possessed a vast network of caverns across its surface. Stargate Command maintained a research base on this moon for some time until the mysterious fireflies drove the team away from the planet, leaving several intact facilities and equipment, although it is possible that the base was restaffed later.
According to Dr. Bill Thompson, the moon was not created by the gas giant's accretion disc, but is a rogue planetary body captured by its gravity and pulled into a highly eccentric polar orbit. (SG1: "Prodigy")
Behind the scenes[]
Stargate SG-1: The DVD Collection issue 28 identifies one of the glyphs for this planet as the point of origin for Earth. However, this could not be possible due to the fact that the point of origin only appears on that gate.
