This article is about the Lantean. For the planet, see Melia (planet). |
- "In time, a thousand worlds bore the fruit of life in this form. Then one day, our people stepped foot upon a dark world where a terrible enemy slept. Never before had we encountered beings with powers that rivaled our own. In our overconfidence, we were unprepared and outnumbered. The enemy fed upon defenseless human worlds like a great scourge, until finally only Atlantis remained."
- ―Hologram of Melia[src]
Melia was a Lantean who was a member of the Ancient Council on Atlantis during the Lantean-Wraith war.
Biography[]
Background information[]
When Dr. Elizabeth Weir traveled back in time and arrived in Atlantis ten thousand years before her time, she was brought before the Council, asking for help in returning to her timeline. Though Melia was sympathetic to Weir, High Counselor Moros refused, and ordered Janus' time machine to be destroyed.
Melia extended the offer to allow Weir to join the Lanteans and return to Earth through the Stargate, and left a holographic message for those who would find Atlantis, detailing their time there and their encounter with the Wraith. Melia also offered to block the Earth Stargate to prevent it from ever connecting with Pegasus, but Weir refused. (SGA: "Before I Sleep")
The message was later found by the Atlantis expedition, led by the altered timeline's version of Weir. (SGA: "Rising")
Behind the scenes[]
- Melia is the name of a nymph in Greek mythology, derived from the word meli (μέλι) "honey". However, the Stargate character Melia was likely named after her actress, Melia McClure.
- In Stargate fandom, she is nicknamed "hologram lady" because of her role in "Rising". This has caused some fans to confuse her with Morgan Le Fay, a different Lantean who both created the Atlantis teaching program and masqueraded as the program's holographic interface of herself in the Stargate SG-1 episode "The Pegasus Project".
