The Mobile Analytic Laboratory Probe ,or M.A.L.P., is the first device to emerge on new worlds the S.G.C. tries to contact. It is capable of detecting temperature, analyzing oxygen levels and transmitting video feeds, as well as determining whether or not a D.H.D. is present. (SG1: " Entity", "Revisions")
While investigating the planet where the Wraith took Colonel Sumner, his team and various Athosians, Atlantis lost a M.A.L.P. as the planet's gate was in space. (ATL: "Rising")
The Ancients possess a similar device, known as a Kino, which was used upon the Destiny. It is unknown if Atlantis possessed any, though AR-1 does use a "MALP-on-a-stick" (a video camera duct-taped to a stick).(ATL: "Epiphany")
