Moloc (also called Molech, Molekh, Molok, Molek, Melech, Milcom, Molcom, and most commonly, Moloch) was a Goa'uld System Lord. While on Earth, he was worshiped by the Canaanites and Phoenicians. During his reign, he became known for his demand of child sacrifice, a trait which he took with him after leaving Earth. He continued to be a high-ranking Goa'uld up until his death in 2004.
He decreed that all female Jaffa born in his domain would be sacrificed in the Ceremony of Fire, as only male Jaffa could bring him victory in the wars against the rest of the Goa'uld. The High Priestess Ishta formed the Hak'tyl resistance to spirit away newborn girls. (SG1: "Birthright")
Eventually, however, Moloc learned of the presence of the Hak'tyl ll, and came to stop a meeting of rebel Jaffa among his ranks. His forces killed all but Ishta, Teal'c, and Aron. Ishta was soon captured, and tortured by Moloc. While there, a Rebel Jaffa force Ishta had organized began its revolt against Moloc, who prepared to leave to end it. Moloc was killed when Stargate Command fired missiles through the Stargate which were sent directly at him, due to Aron pointing the laser designator at him, with Ba'al later absorbing Moloc's forces. (SG1: "Sacrifices")
Like most Goa'uld, Moloc was power-hungry, egotistic, and megalomaniacal. However, he seems to have been even more cruel than most of his kind.
His behavior towards Ishta was sadistic and even deranged, as he seemed to find psychotic pleasure in personally torturing Ishta while repeatedly proclaiming himself her god. Unlike most Goa'uld, he also seemed utterly convinced of his divinity. Judging by how he ran his domain, demanding the killing of all women therein upon birth, his insanity likely had few limits.
- Moloc is mentioned in the Biblical books of Deuteronomy and Leviticus.
- Moloc is perhaps best known for the way he is portrayed in John Millton's Paradise Lost, in which he is not a god, but a fallen angel and one of Satan's generals.
