An Ori energy beam weapon is the central weapon on an Ori mothership.
[edit] Overview
This beam weapon was an extremely powerful weapon capable of firing fiery blasts from a central dish at the front of the vessel. The beam was capable of destroying a Ha'tak with a single strike as it pierced through the shield's to assault the vessel directly. Asgard shield's on the Human 304 class vessels were more resistant to the weapon's blasts but a concentrated strike was even capable of destroying them with three to four shot's capable of destroying the vessel. (SG1: " Camelot") Typically the weapon took a few seconds between pulses though there have been cases where the beam was fired rapidly. (SG1: "Counterstrike")
One of the downsides to the weapon was that it resulted in the shield's of an Ori mothership to fluctuate everytime it was fired; this allowed for an external ring transporter to connect to a ring transporter aboard an Ori mothership, and vice versa. (SG1: "Flesh and Blood")
The power of the beam was proved when one shot was used to power a reverse-time field to change the way things went when the Odyssey's power sources were depleted.
[edit] Control
The weapon system was controlled by a Prior who need not be seated in the control chair to fire it, as they seem to be controlling the beam even when standing, which, it is assumed, is done through their staffs. (SG1: "Line in the Sand") At the time of the early part of the Ori crusade, the beam weapon was the most powerful weapon encountered until the developed of the Asgard plasma beam weapon, which proved to be equal, if not greater, than the Ori beam in both power and effectiveness. (SG1: "Endgame", "Unending")
