Quantum mechanics (QM), also known as quantum physics or quantum theory, is a branch of physics that provides a mathematical description of the wave-particle duality of energy and matter. Quantum theory is the most comprehensive theory of nature ever produced by human scientists. Dr. Rodney McKay, Dr. Nicholas Rush, and Colonel Samantha Carter are experts in this field, as are many others who work with the Stargate program.

When SG-1 encountered the Tollans in 1998, Narim told Captain Samantha Carter that quantum mechanics is a misconception. (SG1: "Enigma")

When Jonas Quinn started having visions of the future, Major Samantha Carter told him that predicting the future was impossible by the laws of quantum mechanics, namely the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. She also told him that he was defying quantum mechanics by anecdotally corroborating Newtonian physics. (SG1: "Prophecy")

When Dr. Nicholas Rush was a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, he taught a quantum cryptography class that dealt with Shor's algorithm. (SGU: "Human")
