Robert Carlyle is a Scottish born actor, who made several movie and television appearance, most notably Trainspotting, 28 weeks later, The Full Monty, The World is Not Enough and 24: Redemption. He was originally one of the shortlisted actors to play the eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who after the departure of David Tennant from the 2010 series. Doctor Who creator and head writer until 2010, Russell T Davies was surprised at Carlyle's decision to join Stargate on a Radio interview for BBC Radio 5 Live.
