Robert Makepeace was a colonel in the United States Marine Corps and a member of Stargate Command.
Originally, Makepeace was the commander of SG-3. Among his notable accomplishments, he led the rescue mission to save SG-1 after the team, save Teal'c, was captured by Hathor. (SG1: "Into the Fire")
In 2001, Makepeace was assigned by General Hammond as the new commander of SG-1 after Jack O'Neill's temporary resignation. At the same time, O'Neill joined a rogue NID team overseen by Colonel Harry Maybourne and dedicated to acquiring alien technology by any means. However, unknown to everyone but O'Neill and Hammond, this was a plan to expose the rogue NID agents. O'Neill was subsequently able to identify Makepeace as the NID's double agent within the SGC and have him arrested. Makepeace protested that Earth needs those technologies to defend against the Goa'uld; O'Neill counters that they need allies. (SG1: "Shades of Grey")
While it is unknown who immediately replaced Makepeace as the commander of SG-3, eventually this position was assigned to Colonel Albert Reynolds. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 1")
