SG-4 was one of the original nine SG teams created by presidential order after Colonel Jack O'Neill's second expedition through the Stargate to Abydos. The team was organized by four soldiers, and the team was standby to be dispatched to escort back Cassandra to Hanka. (SG1: "Singularity")

After agreement of sharing Stargate program with Russian Government, the team becomes Russian contigent in the Stargate Command. The team was seen coming back from planet 367 with a survivor of that planet's population, reporting that Nirrti was operating there. (SG1: "Metamorphosis")

The team was also responsible of relocating the survivors from the ship found on P2A-487 to another planet (SG1: "Lifeboat"), as ordered by Jack O'Neill.
