Smoke grenades are canister-type grenades that emit a large amount of smoke which is often colored. They are used to create smoke screens and signal other friendly troops. Major John Sheppard used two smoke grenades to hide his location from a Genii patrol when the Genii invaded Atlantis. (SGA: "The Eye")
While searching for the Goa'uld Korra on PJ6-877 Colonel O'Neill threw one smoke grenade in the cave where Korra hid, which forced him to come out. (SG1: "Deadman Switch")
