[edit] Overview

A stored staff weapon.
Staff weapons release an energy blast that is capable of killing a Human in one well placed shot, cauterizing the wound instantly. It is activated by a small control spot near the mid-section and is powered by a small naquadah power cell.

[edit] Advantages and disadvantages

[edit] Advantages

The Staff weapon has shown to be very powerful, killing most targets in one hit to the chest or abdominal area, though occasionally a shot at point blank range will go clean through the victim. The staff has also shown to be capable of leaving holes in a wall the size of a man's head, blow apart trees and even damage blast doors. The club at the back end of a staff is effective as a melee weapon and can also serves as a sort of spotlight, and the staff has never shown to have ammunition or powering issues. The weapon has also shown to be able to hit Death Gliders in flight, although it was not powerful enough to damage them. (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "Full Circle", "The Broca Divide", "Chain Reaction", "Maternal Instinct")

[edit] Disadvantages

The schematics of the staff weapon.

The Staff weapon is noted for its short range of approximately 50 to 60 meters and low rate of fire (although Bra'tac was seen capable of firing a succession of low powered shots at a higher rate than usual). The weapon is also very hard to use, and is very heavy, along with being very large. The staff weapon is believed to be a weapon of terror, not a weapon of war. The weapon is, like most projectile and energy weapons, useless against Kull armor. The weapon is also ineffective against Priors of the Ori and Replicators. (SG1: "The Warrior", "Evolution", "Beachhead", "Enemies")

[edit] Users

[edit] Goa'uld

Jaffa under the legion of the Goa'uld have shown to use staff weapons as their primary weapons, along with Zat'nik'tels and Shock grenades. Also occasionally, humans serving the Goa'uld have also been seen to use them (mainly Ra and Apophis's forces). (Stargate)(SG1: "Rules of Engagement")

[edit] Jaffa Free Nation

The Free Jaffa Nation has shown to use staff weapons as their primary weapon, much like when they were under the Goa'uld. Free Jaffa Nation Jaffa have been shown to occasionally use Tau'ri weapons, such as the P90. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 2")

[edit] Sodan

The Sodan use a modified staff weapon that is smaller and as such easier to carry.

[edit] Notes

  • Initial reports on Gateworld stated that Adria would reveal that the Staff weapon is based on Ancient design and how the Goa'uld stole much of their knowledge from the Ancients.[citation needed]
  • In the original film, the Staff Weapon is much more powerful than in the series.
