Stasis pods are devices used to hold a being in stasis. They are used by many races, which vary from by each race.

Brody trapped in a Stasis Pod of "Destiny"

The Ancients have Stasis pods which do not cause complete stasis, but rather slow down the metabolic rate of the individual in the pod. They will still age, but at a significantly slower rate (around 1 year for every 200 years in stasis.) Dr. Elizabeth Weir went into stasis to preserve Atlantis by rotating the Zero Point Modules every 3,300 years. Aurora-class battleships contain such Stasis pods. Colonel Jack O'Neill was placed in a similar Stasis pod in the Antarctic outpost to prevent his brain from being overwhelmed by the knowledge of the Ancients. Khalek was also contained within a Stasis pod between his times in the DNA resequencer. The Ancient ship Destiny contained a large number of Stasis pods, their performance compared to the newer versions of the Ancient Stasis pods is not known, but they appear to operate in a similar way. There proved to be just enough pods for the entire crew to enter stasis for three years, but apparently there were none left over as when there were problems with several of the pods, there weren't others that could simply be used.

Whilst connected to Stasis pods such as those on the Aurora, individuals can be connected to virtual reality simulations by means of a built-in neural interface.

Despite the aging process inside some Ancient Stasis pods - the Ancient Ayiana was found after millions of years in Antarctica with no signs of aging whatsoever. Whether a different, more long-term Stasis pod was used or whether Ancients simply possess the ability to "Hibernate" naturally is unknown. The former is more likely, however, as there would be no need otherwise for Stasis pods such as those on Atlantis and Destiny. Asgard

Main article: Asgard stasis pod

The Asgard have also developed two types of Stasis pods: one to hold a being of their size, and another to hold a being of human size. Asgard size stasis pods are capable of sustaining an Asgard in perfect hibernation, probably with around the same level of aging as Ancient ones (although each Asgard clone has a shorter life expectancy than a human). The pod is capable of surviving in the vacuum of space. They are also equipped with location devices to allow them to be found and rescued by nearby ships. (SG1: "Nemesis", "Small Victories", "New Order, Part 2")

The Keeper's chairs

The Keeper was able to develop stasis technology and a virtual reality pod that kept his people safe and active while P7J-989 became safe to inhabit. There are certain doors with special markers that allow one inside the virtual reality to leave. However, even after the planet was healed, he didn't tell them it was safe, for fear they would destroy their world again. The charade was finally ended when SG-1 was forcibly taken, and exposed the Keeper's lies. It is supposed that the chairs do not age the inhabitant in the same way as the Ancient and Asgard counterparts do. (SG1: "The Gamekeeper")

Goa'uld

Main article: Stasis jar

In addition to a jar specifically designed to preserve a symbiote, the Goa'uld have developed pods which are capable of holding a person in stasis, cryogenically freezing them. If a host who is still undergoing the implantation process is frozen, the symbiote will be unable to take control of the host and will die. Additionally, the Sarcophagus is capable of keeping one alive almost indefinitely, however the sarcophagus is based on Ancient technology. (SG1: "Hathor", "Out of Mind", "Into the Fire", "The Curse")

Talthun

The Talthuns developed stasis technology for when their star destroyed Talthus. As their ships were incapable of faster than light travel, they developed a form of stasis that perfectly preserved the body, but also removed the consciousness from the body. If the body should die, the consciousness could be downloaded into another body. (SG1: "Lifeboat")

Wraith

Main article: Hibernation pod

The Wraith spend roughly two centuries in stasis between cullings, during which the humans of Pegasus will repopulate their galaxy. Whether the stasis is solely to allow human population growth or is a biological need is unknown. While in stasis, they cannot be detected by a life signs detector. Because of the vulnerability the Wraith place themselves in by sleeping, a small group, lead by a Keeper, will guard them. If the Keeper should die, the rest of the Hive ship will awaken. While inside the hibernation pod, there is a constant flow of fluids between the Wraith occupant and the Hive ship. The Wraith also use stasis technology to keep humans alive to be fed upon in the future, by cocooning them. (SGA: "Rising", "The Defiant One", "The Gift", "Infection")

Eurondan

The Eurondan civilization also made use of a large stasis room here they kept the majority of their civilization safe during their war against the Breeders on their planet. (SG1: "The Other Side")

Serrakin/Hebridian

The Serrakin introduced stasis technology to the Hebridian people after they liberated them from the Goa'uld. They use stasis technology aboard several of their vessels most notable the Sebrus type ship, designed to transport criminals in stasis to a prison world, this relinquishes the need for a brig. (SG1: "Forsaken")

Ursini

The Ursini also posess stasis pods that can keep their occupants' brains active during extended hibernation periods. The pods also provide basic nutrients to the user. The pods are also compatible with humans. (SGU: "Awakening", "Resurgence")

Nakai

The Nakai also posess similar stasis technology by keeping prisoners or test subjects in tanks filled with water. The occupants usually remain unconscious while in the pods. (SGU: "Space")
