Invisible Asgard[]

The article currently suggests that the Asgard do have cloaking technologies capable of making their ships invisible. Not only is this pure speculation - but it's speculation which goes against all evidence. When Thor said to Jack that the Tau'ri cannot detect his ship, the line referred to in the article, the ship was perfectly visible on camera. He never said it could cloak - and most people believe, probably correctly and as the article says, that he was referring to his radar absorbing technologies and other sensor countermeasures. Also, the fact that he responded to Jack's question over whether people will detect his ship with "You have never detected us before" as opposed to "We are invisible/cloaked" is a pretty good suggestion that they're not invisible, just very small to have a chance of seeing with a telescope being pointed randomly into the sky. We also know that it was only through Merlin's ascended/ancient knowledge that the Odyessy could cloak - even once the Asgard core was added (along with supposedly all their knowledge), they never cloaked to avoid the Ori in Unending and Carter said they could only do it thanks to the knowledge provided by him. For these reasons I believe that suggesting the Asgard vessels can become invisible is a totally unarguable theory and not an appropriate thing to suggest on an article :) Sman789 (talk) (Contribs) 20:09, January 6, 2011 (UTC)]

Sman I agree with you mostly. There is no evidence we have ever seen that suggests the Asgard are capable of cloaking their ships from visibility. So perhaps it should be stated that the Asgard are capable of being hidden from detection on sensors, but not visibility. That being said though, the lines quoted above can be interpreted differently. After all, a cloaked Tel'tac is still detectable in some conditions and the ZPM hive penetrated even the cloak of a Jumper. (Note I called it a Jumper, not a Gateship). So though I agree with you, that doesn't mean we're right. One more thing to add is that Odyssey not cloaking seemed like a plothole to me. I have no idea why they didn't cloak, and I don't remember if there was an AoT comment that explained it. But I think that had the Asgard possessed cloaking technology, Odyssey would have been outfitted with it...unless the Ancient designed cloak was more advanced than what they had....The point is, we're speculating a bit. Perhaps the article can be written in a way that makes it clear what it IS capable of, but does not entirely rule out the possibility of complete optical camoflauge. Also, I want to apologize to everyone. I've reread some of my recent comments. I've been coming off a little too standoff-ish lately. Sorry if I snapped at anyone. That's not the attitude I'm trying to convey, but perhaps from my comments toward SGU, it has come across that way. So...once again sorry.Phoenix304 (talk) (Contribs) 23:42, April 27, 2011 (UTC)

Jumper cloak[]

Every time a Jumper goes through a stargate into hostile territory, it flies through THEN cloaks, why don't they do it the other way around? Several times the enemy has been alerted because they "See a ship fly through the stargate and dissappearing." Where's the harm in cloaking BEFORE entering the stargate?

-end of unsigned statement-

It likely has something to do with the interaction of the cloak with the stargate. It is concievalbe it would be unsafe to travel by wormhole while cloak for some technobabbly reason. That or it could be nothing important just visual style on the part of the producers, essentially just a coincidence for production reasons. 67.183.100.160 04:03, June 12, 2012 (UTC)
