Travel direction Edit

The article says that the one-way travel of matter is a technological limitation, not a property of the wormhole. The show seems to indicate otherwise. Carter even comments on wormhole directionality in an academic setting in “Prodigy”. A fundamental property of wormholes makes more sense than gates only being able to deconstruct or reconstruct, especially since that’s contradicted by the shows several times. — Alecperkins(talk) (Contribs) 17:35, May 7, 2014 (UTC)

Recieving gate showing adressEdit

Alright strange question that came to mind while writing some FF.

What happens when a gate is dialled and it spinns:

  1. It spins to lock onto its own adress to show that it is the gate being dialled from somewhere else.
  2. It spins to lock onto the dialing gate's address to show what address it is being dialled from.

As I see it there is information to show for both cases. SGC personnel seem to be able to identify who's coming in before the wormhole has been established which could be due to them knowing what teams are off world and when they're due back. At other times they seem oblivios until they get radio conntact, a GDO code or another transmission.

Now according to the physics I was thought in school two or three years ago all energy is and can be threated as vibrations of some sort so here's a very simple way of seeing things. Matter is only allowed through from the dialing gate while energy(vibrations) are allowed in both directions.

If you have two aluminium cans (representing the two event horizons) and a rubber tubing between them (the wormhole) and you (dialing gate) are asked by someone (the DHD) to send a liquid (the transfered matter) to someone else (recieving gate) through the tubing. Then you could basically throw the other end to the reciever and start pumping the liquid, they would not need to know who was sending the liquid, because it is the reciever's jobb to take the liquid it would be satisfied that it has recieved it and it would not have to ask who sent it to do its job. If we stretch the tubing we will now have a medium through which we can send vibrations back and forth, but the reciever will still not know who is causing the vibartions unless the sender choses to identify him.

Of course this is extremely different from actuall wormhole physics, yet I believe it to be an addequate comparisson for this question and if it is then there is nothing that would require the sending gate to tell the recieving gate to tell its address, meaning that the recieving gate can not spin/dial to show the address of the calling gate.

Any thoughts and/or ideas about the subject?
