I had an idea: McKay said he was floating in a big blackness when the answer how to save himself came. He was trying to ascend because he would've died otherwise. What if: since the Others believe in free will and Rodney had no choice, they subconsciously presented him with the opportunity to save himself. Had he rejected it and did not tell Beckett to use his blood samples, he would have ascended because he would've proven that he is no longer bound to this plane of existence and thus he is worthy of ascension.--Amitakartok 21:05, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
