Does anyone know how Tretonin is made "now"? I'm wondering because Jacob said that the Tok'ra where working for a way to replace the need of symbiotes to make it. Iaselar 07:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

  • i was under the impression that the tokra queen told a way to produce the drug without symbiotes. I dont recall a single reference to the restoration of a persons immune system.
  • From what I recall in Cure, Egeria gave them an antidote to the immune system suppression caused by tretonin. They even specifically called it an antidote and pointed out that the Pangerans would no longer be dependent on the drug. At no point was it said that Egeria told them how to synthesise tretonin without the symbiotes and it's likely she wouldn't even know. If the Tok'ra possess her own genetic memory plus many centuries worth of technological advancement since their creation then they should in fact know more than she does and not less. What happened in the episode was that Egeria had intentionally been breeding a genetic flaw into her symbiotes. The antidote could only be designed with knowledge of this flaw which of course only she knew about. That's what she gave them in the end. Of course this wouldn't work for the Jaffa because they don't have the natural human immune system once they've been implanted.
  • By the way, I have no idea how tretonin is made now but would hope they'd found a way to do so without grinding up the Goa'uld. Overthrowing them was fair enough but you get to a point where enough is enough.

Tretonin makes Jaffa more dependant, not less[]

Pity that that system lords didn't learn about this stuff earlier, If they managed to synthesize it for themselves in vast numbers then the Jaffa would be far more completely bound to the authority of the goa'uld then they had been with a symbiote that would be replaced every seven years, with tretonin the Jaffa would be addicted to a substance they would need to take dialy, and only the goa'uld could provide in significant numbers. (kind of like the Jem'Hadar in Star Trek Deep Space nine, who were addicted to the drug ketracel white by their "gods")--99.141.189.114 02:22, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

i doubt the goauld would grind up their own symbiotes for that purpose...the symbiote implanted in jaffa isnt just to bind the jaffa to their will, its to incubate the young symbiote —ASDF1239 DISCUSSION 02:45, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

Tretonin does not need to be made from symbiotes, as far as we have seen it can be synthesized and the goa'uld are smart enough to learn how to manufacture it the way the Tok'ra did. And judging from the relatively small number of Goa'uld in existence, its not like the goa'uld need hundreds of thousands of symbiotes incubated. Maybe if only the priest caste were to continue their role as incubators it would be enough to support the goa'uld population, while the soldiers become slightly weakened, yet infinitely loyal, a very good trade.--99.150.199.161 02:38, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

To be fair, Goa'uld domains span a lot of space and they're at constant war. It's likely that Jaffa not having to get somewhere to check in with their masters every few days to get more tretonin is just necessary to sustain this. Also, it's quite possible the Jaffa could have synthesised tretonin eventually and given they'd basically have to be given some supply for every time they left on any sort of mission it likely wouldn't have been hard for them to study it. If that happened then they'd never need the Goa'uld again.

Also, and this is just a thought, but the Goa'uld may feel that offering their worshippers ground god sends the wrong message.

NOTE, Jaffa can only carry symbiotes for so long. Bra'tac would be dead without tretonin, Jaffa can only carry so many in their lives. ralok (talk) (Contribs) 01:34, April 15, 2012 (UTC)

Tretonin User - Lifespan[]

Does someone who is using Tretonin get a extended lifespan like someone who is host to a symbiote ? For example, in either episode The Tok'ra, Part 1 or Part 2, someone said that Saroosh, the host of Selmak prior to Major General Jacob Carter, was over 200 years old before the host died & Selmak had to change hosts. So would somebody using Tretonin live as long as that ? 194.74.238.137 13:46, November 22, 2013 (UTC)

Jaffa Pouch closing[]

Does anyone know the origin of the sentence in this article:

  • It was indicated by Major Samantha Carter, that due to the fact that Tretonin replaced the Jaffa's need for a symbiote, Teal'c and Bra'tac's symbiote pouches had begun to close up. Whether this is the case with all Jaffa remains to be seen.

It seems to have been added in by an IP Address user back in 2008 and we've kept it there all this time without a proper reference. I don't actually recall this being stated on the show so I'm unsure if it's actually valid. -Anubis 10545 (talk) (Contribs) 07:36, June 8, 2016 (UTC)

In the episode where Bra'tac helps Teal'c recover from being brainwashed, Dr. Frasier mentions that Teal'c's pouch had begun to close up (due to being without his symbiote for so long).
