In 1999, while he was in college, he was "sucked in" to Seth Fargough's cult. He was exposed to Nish'ta and became subservient to Seth. He was freed from the organism's control when SG-1 shot him with a Zat'nik'tel and he returned to his family. (SG1: "Seth")
