|Out of universe information|
Travora (Animalia Chordata Mammalia Primates Strepsirrhini) is a native animal species to the P9J-333 and a number of moons.
Travoras are shy and docile herbivores, and in appearance it is a crossover between a fox and a lean bear. They are active at night and has reflective yellow eyes for night vision. An adult Travora can weigh between 160 and 190 pounds.
Travora live most predominantly in the treetops of Ardulla trees, and sometimes come down to the ground. It uses its long strong claws for digging out small termite-like larvae from rotting trees. Its main food is the new growth of the Ardulla tree, and it thrives in lush surroundings with no threat of predation.
Every twenty years, aliens come from a nearby planet, P3X-244 and participate in a mass slaughter of the creatures to keep the Travora's numbers stable. The aliens use and sell Travora fur, oil and bladders. Despite, or perhaps because of this, the creature is shy and reclusive, and its population is stable.
In 2006, a Travora became infected by a interdimensional parasite, which mutated its body into a great meat-eating creature. It injured and killed many inhabitants of the P9J-333 and some members of the SG-25. Teal'c managed to kill the creature and Stargate Command managed to figure out that the parasite can cause mutation in its host. (SG1: "Uninvited")
