Well, mainly you need common sense and a lot of wikia know-how... Meaning you know what actions to take when a problem arises, and have a firm grasp on wiki markup. Hey its me Railgun88, I was reading your User Page when something caught my eye. I second your idea of having a far larger 305 battleship. Do you know if they are going to put it into the actually series'?-User:Railgun88

Unfortunately, they probably won't and I have heard nothing official regarding it. Although that would be cool. Especially if it was the size of the ship from Grace or an O'Neill-class ship. It's crazy, the Tau'ri have the most powerful ships, but they're the smallest ones in several galaxies. Yea. Although it takes 9 months to construct a 304. To make a ship the size of an Asgard or Ori ship (which is several times a 304's size) it would take a few years. At their current rate of ship production, that would just be impractical. Especially because 304s are such a formidable craft already. I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool though, because it would be awesome! I mean, 304s are so small already, in The Pegasus Project when the Wraith ship was firing at Odyssey, a shot of the Hive's weapons practically hit the entire backside of the Odyssey. Although it does give me some comfort that Traveler ships are smaller than 304s (shown in The Lost Tribe).—Anubis 10545 20:44, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Constructing a mothership would be a pain, but they could always just take one from somebody and modify it with Asgard tech. I mean, there are millions of Ha'taks sitting around, waiting to be blown up in one shot, why not take one and upgrade it Prometheous style? But having a mothership presents another problem: manning it. Motherships are capable of carrying thousands of people, if we start building them, the Stargate program won't be secret because everybody and their brother will be in on it. Further more, we don't really need motherships as they are more for invading and what-not while our goal is exploration and defense. Yea, except that the people we steal from are going to get majorly angry and invade us with a massive fleet of Ha'taks. (not to mention that we actually have steal the ship ourselves... which might be bloody... and difficult). But the people who make the show try to compensate for the size difference... I didn't say steal, I said take. There is prolly a lame Goa'uld out there, trying to be evil that we can kill. I mean, we got a Ha'tak from Cronus once... And it probably wouldn't be bloody for us, after all, Ha'taks are just about the easiest things to infiltrate, maybe Hive ships are a little easier, but we could always buy one if worst comes to worst. I don't use a program to take screenshots with. I get them from various websites (including gateworld.net), crop them, and upload them here. Or if I can't find the screenshot I want, I download the episode, and press print screen. And what are you referring to when you say "great work".—Anubis 10545 22:44, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Just out of curiosity

Anubis, I notice for some time now that, from my point of view, on your user page, by the time you finished with the text, the image where the Apollo gets hit by the beam to the one where Teal'c drinks coffee, it is absolute blank on the left side (if you know what I'm talking about) Now it's probably because I use a different system or something like that, but is this happening to you too, or is everything normal from your view point? Well, that's probably because my computer screen is smaller than yours is. On my screen, the External Links section meets up just about perfectly with the image of Teal'c drinking coffee. Hi! I'm new so this is my first time. I just read your homepage and I noticed that it said that you were glad when the Prometheus was destroyed. If I may ask, why were you glad when the Prometheus was destroyed? Tau'ri 21300—Tau'ri 21300 08:26, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Prometheus was a really ugly looking, small, and primitive ship (in comparison to Daedalus-class ships). The only weapons they ever fired from it were missiles... no railguns at all when that's really all the Daedalus uses during every engagement. That craft couldn't even defend itself from Al'kesh and Death Gliders in Prometheus Unbound... (it would have been destroyed if it wasn't for the Al'kesh Gen. Hammond and the rest of the Prometheus' crew commandeered), so how was it Earth's Flagship before the Odyssey. In Stargate SG-1, they kept using it when they had MUCH more powerful technology at their disposal. And for other reasons similar to that, I'm glad they destroyed Prometheus... they will never use that primitive ship ever again... (except for a small part in an alternate reality in The Road Not Taken... but that doesn't really count). Although I will confess that I was disappointed when I first saw the episode Ethon, when such a primitive race as the Keladonians destroyed a Tau'ri build ship... Well I know it's possible to upload video and play video directly on articles. The video would be in a box, much the same as an image, and you press play. They do this on Halopedia like in the article here, although I'm sure there's some sort of copywrite thing though... maybe. I'll look into it. I know. I found out what was wrong. If it says on the video's page on Youtube, in the box next to the video "Embedding disabled by request", the video you put here won't work. The reason it was doing that is because the image automatically positions itself below the infobox, taking the paragraph with it because it's linked in the code above the paragraph. To fix it I just aligned it to the left instead of the right, but if you're deadset on keeping it on the right, the image link has to be moved somewhere else in the source code and it won't line up with the paragraph. At the same time, I resized the youtube thumb to the same size as the images. Cheers. —Ka'lel 06:52, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

What resolution are you running? The standard now-a-days for non-widescreens is 1280x1024. As people increase their monitor sizes and the like, that's slowly changing though. That's where you run into problems with floating. The top of my User page (where those first images are) must look really messed up from your perspective. Given your hatred for large gaps in pages, I was surprised you like the way Korolev looks as it is, because on our screens, that's a massive gap. Cheers.—Ka'lel 07:11, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

My resolution is 1024 by 768. On the Korolev page, the only gap from my perspective is between the External links heading and the 304-class ships template, if that's what your referring to. Matthew R Dunn mentioned that from his perspective, the images going down the right side of my userpage go way past where the text ends. Yes, the images on your userpage go waaaay past the text. I just decreased my resolution to 1024x768 and I still can't see what you're seeing, so I don't know what's going on there. If it's feasible, I recommend increasing your res to match the majority. Just to give you a heads up, this is what the rest of us see: Your user page and Korolev page. Yes, it's very strange, because if I decrease my resolution to 1024x768, I should be able to see what you see, but I don't. It's strange...But anyways, if there's nothing you can do, there's nothing you can do. No worries. In the future, if I make an edit because it looks bad/wrong, I'll make a note in the summary that it might depend on the resolution of the monitor. But whatever I do, it should never flat-out break anything from your perspective. For instance, the Korolev edit that I made. Though it may not look as good on your screen, it didn't actually mess anything up to the point where images were overlapping text or vice-versa, or the page was weird with big gaps, etc. So if I do something like the Korolev edit again (and I'll note it in the summary), just keep in mind that even though it looks a bit different in 1024x768, it looks a LOT better in 1280x1024. Well, over the past couple of years (or how ever long I've edited here) nothing has gone horribly wrong regarding the difference in resolution and monitor size. So, you don't really need to make a note of anything. Well, if you want to move a page, on the tab at the top of a page where the "Edit this page" button is, there is a button that says "Move". Although to redirect an article (and not just move it, as some get that confused) you go to the page you want to redirect, clear all info from it, and type in #REDIRECT [[article name here]].—Anubis 10545 00:50, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Feel free to use my userboxes. For creating your own, the easiest way to do it is to find one someone else created and "tweak" it... meaning change the text and the image to whatever you want instead (although you can change more than just that). Well, there's really no reason to. I mean, it's possible you could forget to sign in again and the message would automatically appear again. As it's doing no harm, we might as well just leave it. applying Sg1 canon to the movie renders whole scenes of the movie meaningless. SG-1 is based on the movie. While there may be some differences, those differences belong on the cannon page, not anywhere else on this wiki except for maybe a "behind the scenes" section. We're going to include both the movie and series as cannon but (seeing how the show is more recent) use info from the show over the movie. About Jackson and the point of origin, that does contradict the series... at least the part on Abydos. So, just take out the last sentence of the paragraph then. About Anubis, just because he isn't a jaffa and doesn't have a mark on his forehead doesn't not make him a first prime. Hello, no problem. im still getting my head around the code and creatin new pages, so iv done a few things i didnt wanna do. or thought i had to do somethin, in order to do somethin else. reason i created a few pages with "No timeline data available at this time" anyway, i think iv got my head around things now (i think)

Also, i use to be the user called jeffrey123450, but uni took over my life so i had to stop work on the stargate timeline originally. Anyway, iv got my life back now, so i wanna get the timeline sorted. iv created the new user name Stargate TL1 (Stagate Timeliner 1).

do you know if the is this date is right? as i thought Wormhole X-Treme had a series run, before being cancelled in the 100th episode of SG1, and then returned in the 200th episode? so would this bring the final episode of Wormhole X-Treme forward to 2015. i hope that makes sense.

i need your opinion. In the Stargate timeline pages we have event data (including source), but at the bottom of the page someone has also added "episode broadcastered" that year. He is a link to one of the pages....

In my personal opinion, the timeline pages should be a record of events, as if they had really happened only and production data should be stored in a different section. Also, even if an episode aired in 2001 (for example), the data from the show might appear in several years throughout the timeline (e.g, 1968, 1996 and 2001. Perhaps we could have a seperate production database, which contains broadcasted episodes, movie, novels, comics and audio stories ect ect. wot ye think?

anyway, wot do you think of the tables in each timeline year? i think it makes it easier to read and access information. im gonna start workin on filling in the missing timeline data next, so the timeline becomes more realiable, detailed and complete.

I do like the tables. About the broadcasted episodes section, I think it would be better to include it (like how it is in the 1998 article) because it is somewhat separated from the rest of the page, and it helps organize things (kind of). Having an entirely separate database "thing" for the production info seems unnecessary. I know our point or view is to perceive things as though they really happened, but just think of it like how we have "behind the scenes" sections. And lets also include the "First Contacts" and "Planets Visited" sections like we previously did... although I suppose that too could be included in the tables... doesn't really matter though.
Also, when you reference an episode which shares the same name with an article here... (like Cor-ai (episode) and Cor-ai) ... to reference the episode, write it like this: [[Cor-ai (episode)|Cor-ai]]. If you use the {{Cite}} template (which looks like this): {{Cite|SG1|Episode name}}, you write it like this: {{Cite|SG1|Cor-ai (episode) {{!}} Cor-ai}}. i was thinking about how we should possible organise and log facts in the stargate timeline, as most events can only be educationally estimated (at best), and i came to the conclusion that we need some rules. Because there are two methods to recored events...

1) that when a season of stargate first aired (e.g, 2003) is when all the events in the timeline should be logged. However, the problem with this method, is that a season of stargate generally crosses over 2 seperate years (2003 and 2004).

or

2) that the events in the timeline are estimated depending on when an episode aired. (for example, if an episode first aired on the 9th of september 2007, then the events are recorded in the 2007 timeline section, unless suggested or stated otherwise) However, if an episode is more than one part, and the first and second part aired in two seperate years (e.g, part 1 in december 2005, and part 2 in Febuary 2006), then the events in part 2 happened in the same year as part 1, unless suggested or stated otherwise.

in my opinion, i belive we should go with option 2. i know the events in the timeline are probably never gonna be perfact, and open to much discussion (like the timeline that was on wikipedia). But i believe its important that events are recorded and organised in one way (everyone singing from the same hymnsheet) otherwise the timeline is never gonna work. Also i dont want my hardwork over the next few months to be pointless.

Oh... I've been thinking about what to do with that. Seeing how the Final Cut is more recent and therefore more cannon, we should more lean towards looking to that for info. Although this can be confusing (By that I mean ((for example)) we could include, in the appropriate articles, that Apophis used a Tel'tak to transport himself, Amaunet, and Klorel). But, we could keep the Transport Glider article, have the same info, but make reference to Apophis using different crafts in the final and original cuts in "behind the scenes" sections.
As for having a different article that describes the final cut (like an episode description)... I'm leaning towards not doing that. However, we can have an article (which can be placed in the Stargate DVDs article) that (as well as including things like bonus features, etc.) can also include the changes from the original cut. —Anubis 10545 19:53, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Exactly how did Stargate make you an atheist? I'm just curious...

It didn't do it single handedly... but it played a large role... Especially with episodes like Demons where the world is controlled by religious "wackjobs" who don't listen to reason and are "blinded" by "faith". Then, the whole Goa'uld arc and then Ori arc were really Anti-"god" centered. Also, Ascension is just a regular part of evolution that can happen naturally, mostly occurring to already somewhat highly evolved creatures. Being "good" only plays a role if someone helps you ascend, in which case you aren't evolved enough to do it yourself naturally. It also got me watching History Channel more and shows about the universe... realizing how the idea of a "god" sounds... ridiculous... no offense. No offense taken, I'm certainly not the religious type myself. I went to a Catholic school and thought it was malarkey the whole time. I am not an atheist though, I'd say I'm agnostic. I don't really like that term though because it makes you sound like a gross person. So I guess I wouldn't say that actually... I just have a hard time believing that any religion marred by man can possibly be correct. It is a quite perplexing thing, the universe. They say it essentially came from nothing, and the answer to that is "Our god made it!". But where did said god come from? But maybe I'll find that out later, more importantly, Stargate! I don't have cable, so I rarely got to see any episodes, but they are posting them on Hulu now. I'm pretty stoked about that. Hopefully they put Universe up there too! I was actually thinking about how I'm going to be able to watch Universe as well. I live in Canada, so not only is the Space Channel only now airing season 4 of SGA and calling them new episodes, but Hulu isn't available anywhere but the States. I actually downloaded HD episodes of SGA Season 5 as they aired so I could watch it as live as possible. I really only own all the SGA episodes only in digital format, though that makes it easier to edit and upload some awesome pics. I'll probably have to do the same with Universe, because I don't think the Space Channel will be airing them in tandem with Syfy. About the god discussion, given Thor's intelligence and general Asgard apathy he probably didn't fear death, but they never really discussed Asgard afterlife beliefs. I'd call myself an agnostic, but I don't think about it often. Thanks for your feedback, Anubis. I took your suggestions, went back in and added a small Help section and an About Stargate section to replace the top-of-page Welcome, you can see the changes I made here. I made the Help section smaller because our research on Wikia Entertainment wikis shows that people rarely ever click on Help links, preferring to ask others or learn by doing. It may be worth it to have a smaller section for the rare person who might use it, but it shouldn't take up too much main page real estate to be effective (since nobody uses it). Similarly, addressing your concerns about the image portal I introduced to the top of the page, we've found that very few people click on the sidebar menu, and that it's always worth having an eyecatching image portal on the main page. People respond to interesting images more than blocks of text, we've found it does wonders for both helping acclimate new users as well as getting more people to explore and edit.
I also added an "About Stargate" section to the bottom of the page, partially because it helps a lot with Google indexing, meaning more people will find your wiki via Google searches, and also because there isn't a simple overall explanation of the franchise that's easily accessible on the wiki. Please take a look at the changes I made, and let me know what you think. Everything I've done is with an eye geared toward optimizing the main-page experience for both new users and the regulars here, based on extensive research Wikia Entertainment has done on other wikis. Anubis - thanks so much for taking such an active and friendly role in working on this. It's very appreciated! I think it's great that you're open to making changes for the better. I took your concerns about wanting the welcome to stay on the main page to heart, and did another redesign myself. I shifted it to the right hand column, where I think it fits nicely without being obtrusive. I'd like to take this opportunity to explain some of the design choices I made a little further.
There's a term we use in the Entertainment Team called "above the fold", and it refers to all content that appears near the top of a user's screen that they don't have to scroll down to see. This is an important concept, because most users who visit a wiki looking for information rarely ever scroll down below the fold - that is, past what they initially see when a main page loads. This is why it's important to make the content that is the most useful to your users be as clearly displayed as possible.
Take a look at the welcome as it is now - there's three links there, two of which direct new users to the inner workings of a wiki, and one that acts as a spoiler warning. Most people coming to look at your wiki - especially the new fans who will be coming that are interested in SG Universe information - probably won't be too concerned about making edits or looking at site statistics right away. They're going to want a quick, obvious way to find and read content, which is what the image portal will be good for. And your established editors don't need that info up top either, because they know where to find it if they do need it. Leaving the spoiler warning in place probably isn't a bad idea for new readers, but keeping the other stuff at the top is really just keeping new users from getting at Stargate information quickly. Making this information easy to access is what gets new users to enjoy coming to the wiki, and in turn makes them want to become active editors, fulfilling the purpose of the welcome message!
Another term we use is SEO, and it stands for Search Engine Optimization. This applies to all search engines, but I'll use Google as an example - when Google looks at a Wikia wiki, what it sees as most important is what's in the upper left hand column of the screen - where we want the image portal and links to be, and where you have the welcome. We want there to be a lot of great content links there so your wiki gets recognized by Google accordingly, and appears higher in searches. Conversely, the least important stuff Google looks at is in the lower right hand column - where there's currently a content portal, and what turning it to a front-and-center image portal aims to fix. Think of it this way: your wiki has a certain amount of Google juice it can use. Right now, that juice is being used up on something that won't be ranked well. By switching the welcome to the right, and keeping relevant information like categories and upcoming Stargate media events up above the fold and visible, you're pumping all that Google juice into things that will really matter. There's other SEO tricks I used in my design, like having a brief paragraph on Stargate on the main page, that will help as well.
Hopefully that explains things a little better. We've been collecting a lot of data on all this stuff on wikis we've been working with on Gaming and Entertainment, like WoW Wiki, and Starcraft Wiki, that have showed us the most effective ways of getting wikis noticed. I have an idea: what if we take the main page design I made and have it active for a month. During that time, myself and the other Wikia Entertainment Team members will track the stats of the wiki. i really need your help with a problem. i have created a juggling wiki (http://jugglebox.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) and i have editored the main navigation menu to suit my wiki, including the colour theme using Monaco (Brick). However, if you do a seach for a juggling wiki using the wikia search bar (when not logged in), then find and access my wiki, both the main navigation menu and colour theme i editored are NOT there. Instead the pre-set/original wiki main navigation menu and colour theme load on the Juggling wiki. the only way you can see the main navigtion menu and colour theme is to log-in into wikia. Most other Wiki's (i.e. Stargate Wikik) let users see the main navagation menu and colour theme. I just want users to be able to access the wiki (as iv designed it) without having to create an account or log-in.

i have used the 'MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar' to design my main navigation menu and my prefferences (with admin options) to design page format.

any help would be appreciated, as iv been trying to fix this for nearly 4 hours, without any look.

You have logout and clear you cache, then search/load the juggle wiki. then the wiki does'nt load the main navigation menu or the wiki format i desiged. it reverts back to the pre-set/original format. once ye log in (and have cache from a log-in) the wiki will load properly. Im just trying to sort it out, so when people access wikia and look for juggling, they can use the juggling wiki properly or as i designed. im gonna leave it 24 hours, and see when the wikia system updates over night, if the problem is corrected. *fingers crossed.

hey anubis, i hope you will get this message (im not that good around wiki so i cant do it myself) some actors on stargate wiki has on their info "Date of death: TBD". example: http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Kate_Hewlett

if you could double check it and change it, or even let me know where i can see all the actors list .. and how to remove the line without destroying the table.. let me know if i can help

Thanks. I really didn't like them either. I've been meaning to change them for a while, but I just found the time... and figured out a good way to do it :). If you have any suggestion regarding those in the future, let me know. Were you surprised and dismayed to see a measly three Ha'tak motherships do what they want when a 304 was there? I thought it was pretty good overall. I was upset that Lou Diamond Phillips was only in it for twenty seconds and I don't know about the rest of the cast. I wasn't too fond of the flashback thing either, I would have preferred to see it in chronological order, hopefully they don't put too many flashbacks in later episodes. RDA is pretty fat, and he has hearing loss, I kind of feel bad for him. Anywho, I know it is supposed to deal with survival for the most part, but I'm really hoping for a good deal of exploration, which Atlantis I thought lacked a bit. I'm also interested to see how these Kino videos work out. Who knows at this point, we could be seeing SG-1's Majora's Mask? Wow, those are my thoughts exactly :) With the Ha'taks, I don't think it even showed George Hammond shooting, although Carter said they were able to cut the force of Gliders down a bit. Wasn't really a fan of the flashbacks, but otherwise the scenes where they were on the Destiny would have seemed boring and drawn out. So, I guess it was for the best. Although Syfy just ran it again about 10 minutes ago and the episode(s) seemed better the second time. Poor RDA... weird to think he's almost 60. New show... Watching shows like Lost and Defying Gravity I'm no stranger to flashbacks, so I had no problem with them. (I'm also a Tarantino fan). I also thought that the three Hataks did a huge amount of damage and here are my thoughts: Maybe the Hammond isn't finished and battle ready yet. It seems to be a shuttle between Earth and Icarus. The Hataks were obviously prepared for the fight, attacking as soon as they dropped from Hyperspace and deploying gliders, but for some reason they weren't aware of what they were attacking. As prepared as they seemed for the fight, they didn't anticipate the already unstable planet would explode? I hope we learn more about who they are, but the focus of the show is obviously on the Destiny, so it's unlikely. The sex scene was very out of place for me, like you said it set the mood for the show, but it was like hitting the audience with a blunt object and saying "this aint yo momma's Stargate". And though I love the character of Eli, I don't buy the genious part of it yet, but I think that'll change when we hear a bunch of techno-babble coming from him, which there was none of in the premiere. Although apparently in the episode Incursion, there's something about a Lucian Alliance commander "Kiva"... so we might yet find out more about the attack. That's an interesting point about the Hammond not being fully battle ready... like the Odyssey was in Off the Grid, which wasn't able to put up with as much firepower. Also, what was up with that purple hyperspace window effect? It just seemed... weird. To me, the scene where Rush is in his room in Icarus Base crying after he sees that picture seems just as out of place... maybe more so to me, as the sex scene. He was all-out sobbing... it just seemed a little much. And, I mean, they were wearing clothes... mostly, in the sex scene. It really didn't seem that bad. I forgot about Rush's crying scene. I think the problem with that was that it was way too early and we haven't connected to the characters yet. We (the average viewer who doesn't hunt for spoilers) know absolutely nothing about Rush or his background, so we don't know what's going on and can't connect or feel for him in that scene and it just comes across as awkward. Kiva you say? I've secretly been hoping Netan made a daring escape, but that seems unlikely. I hadn't noticed the purple hyperspace window before, I guess they like changing colors around though. I am interested to see what it is they use for "FTL" on the Destiny. I'm thinking a Tachyon drive maybe. The sex scene wasn't a big deal for me either way, and Rush seems like a butthole to me. Eli seems likable, as does Colonel Young, but I just don't know about these other guys. I wonder if they will be getting a Teal'c/Ronin character in the series? Although, they said that the aliens are supposed to be a lot more "alien-looking". [edit] Naming the planets of stargate Universe

Hi, since I know you are one of the Stargate fans that makes this Wikia improve the most, I figured out that I should leave you a message. Since their are no names for the SGU planets apart from "desert planet" "jungle planet" "ice planet", I have been thinking to a way to name them similarily to the PX**** thing and M***** thing in respectively SG1 and Altantis. So here is my thoughts : 

Every single star and planet will begin with U (for Universe)
Then a S (for season) and the number of the season 1 for the 1st season, etc...
Then a P  (for PLanet) or a S (for Star)which will be followed by the number of the planet.

So in Air, we have : US1P1 for the Desert PLanet, US1P2 for the planet where Palmer and Curtis went. and US1P3 and US1P4 and US1P5 for the three others that are said to be in range of the Destiny. In Darkness, we follow the same idea with US1P6 for the giant gas planet, and up to P9 with the three other planet of the star system. And we could possibly name the star in this solar system : US1S1

Frankly, it seems like it would be easier, and would make more sense to new editors, if we didn't adopt this system. It is a good idea though and I'm glad that you thought of another way (we could always use new ideas). But, unless an official name is given, we will just continue to call new planets "Planet (episode)". It doesn't make the title any less conjectural. Also, say it's season two and you're trying to remember a particular planet from season one, it will always be easier to remember that desert planet from Air than it will be to remember that US1P1 is the desert planet. [edit] Regarding Ads on stargate wiki

I was visiting the page detailing trinium (http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Trinium) linked through from the Iris page, and an ad fullscreen popped up and prompted "your computer needs a virus scan" and when closing the window, prompted "To close the window, press okay. To stay, press cancel." After closing the window, my AVG anti-virus detected an attempted download of a trojan from the website.

I'd recommend checking out your ad-sources.

That's not good. That's happened to me a couple of times on other sites. There's not much I can do about advertisements (Central Wiki deals with that). Why do my edits keep getting undone.

My last one was the Destiny page, it was based on OBSERVATION of something seen on the show yet it is dismissed. there are a lot of assumptions on this wiki and they get away with that.

That's just it... it is a personal opinion and not a fact that Destiny has 15 decks. We have no idea what the dimensions of the ship even are. We will only include factual information on this wiki (that is information received from cannon sources, including the show itself).
