Wraith ships are constructed of a pathogen that are a biological polymer similar to a Polysaccharides but contains organo-metallic compounds. It resembles an insects or crustaceans shell in the sense that it starts out soft and pliable, then it becomes tough and leathery and eventual hardens to become extremely dense and resistant to heat, pressure and even radiation (though not sufficient to indefinately protect a Wraith ship from the effect of the radiation in hyperspace). The polymer uses the resources around it to grow into what ever ship, or outpost it is designed to become. (ATL: "The Siege, Part 1", "The Seed")
